Dear friends, today we are talking about a crystal that seems to be little appreciated in Italy, unlike what happens in Portugal, where it is still considered a perfect stone to wear as an amulet: BIOTITE.
A bit of Biotite history
This stone has a very particular name, and I have always wondered why it is called that.
It was named in 1847 by Johann Friedrich Ludwig Hausmann in honor of the French physicist Jean-Baptiste Biot, who carried out numerous studies on the optical properties of micas.
Since 1998, the IMA – International Mineralogical Association – has removed biotite as a mineral species in its own right, redefining it as one of the common forms of dark mica. However, the name is still widely used as a generic term for any dark, iron-rich mica (or black mica), as opposed to white mica (muscovite).
In Europe, it can be found in the Scandinavian Peninsula, particularly in Norway, as well as at Lake Baikal and in Miask, Russia. In Italy, the most significant findings have occurred in the area of Mount Vesuvius, in the Monzoni Mountains in Val di Fassa (Province of Trento), and in Valle Antrona (Province of Verbano) in Piedmont.
In the Americas, it can be found in Greenland, as well as in Brazil and Alaska.
Even in ancient times, biotite was considered a sacred stone for women in childbirth: it was believed to support the final phase of labor. According to legend, it helps one accept the moment of birth on an energetic level, creating a deep connection with the fetus.
It is also said that many gold prospectors were deceived by this stone. During the search for gold in riverbeds, the direct light would create golden reflections, leading them to believe they had found what they were looking for-only to discover that they were holding biotite instead.
Colors and chakra connections of Biotite
Biotite comes in various colors (black, gray/silver, brown, green), and for this reason it is connected to different energy centers. In its black variety, it is compatible with the 1st Chakra (Muladhara, or Root Chakra); in its silvery variety, it is connected to the 7th Chakra (Sahasrara, or Crown Chakra). In its green variety, it stimulates the 4th Chakra (Anahata, or Heart Chakra).
Its energies harmonize, in particular, the 5th Chakra (Vishuddha, the Throat Chakra) and the 7th Chakra.
Biotite is a crystal rich in charisma and strength.
On a molecular level, it interacts deeply with the person and their magnetic field, modifying it in a positive way.
Biotite offers protection against surrounding negativity, which is why I particularly recommend it to people going through very negative periods or self-destructive phases, or those who “live” in unhealthy environments, surrounded by stagnant energies linked to discomfort caused by dysfunctional family dynamics energies that tend to distance us from our true personality.
The energetic properties of Biotite
It provides strength and vitality (for this reason, I recommend it to people who feel very tired), stimulating self-realization, adaptability, and creativity.
Biotite instills confidence and stability, helps concentration and intuition, and guides us toward the right path. It allows us to see our true desires and real interests more clearly, placing us in the right perspective to bring to life the projects we care about, and to pursue our ideas with conviction.
It frees us from taboos and negative mental patterns that cause suffering, helping to cultivate a clearer and more intuitive mind for resolving situations or making decisions more consciously.
Its luster brings light and love. Place it in particularly dark areas of the home: its light brings strength to that space.
During my sessions, I place this stone directly in the hands of the person receiving the treatment. I consider this splendid crystal to be a cleanser of the soul.
Finally, a general consideration: black crystals absorb all light; they are therefore recommended in cases of excess energy (precisely because they absorb energetic surplus), relaxing the entire organism. They are generally minerals with protective and shielding qualities, absorbing negative energies
