Fluorite is a very common mineral, composed of calcium fluoride. It has the characteristic of flaking perfectly into octahedral crystals, i.e. a double pyramid joined at the base.
Fluorite deposits are found almost everywhere in the world, but it is mainly mined in Brazil and Namibia.
It is almost always transparent and translucent, or with a glassy sheen. It is often found in purple, pink and green, more rarely in yellow, orange, blue, brown and black.
The history
The name fluorite derives from the Latin ‘Fluere’ which means ‘to flow’ and refers to its use as a flux in metallurgy, to facilitate the fusion of certain materials in their transformation processes. Even the word ‘fluorescent’ comes from the word Fluorite as its crystals were the first fluorescent specimens to be studied.
Egyptians, Greeks, Romans and Chinese used this crystal to make vases, jewelry, statues, sacred sculptures and other ornamental objects.
In the 18th century it was ground into a powder and mixed with drinking water because it was thought to aid the treatment of kidney diseases. It was also believed to strengthen bones. The ancient Romans were convinced that drinking alcoholic beverages in glasses coated with fluorite limited drunkenness.
The Chakra connected to Fluorite is the Sixth Ajna chakra ‘Forehead or Third Eye’.
Its effects
Regarding the influence of fluorite on the energies linked to the physical body, we can say that it helps to improve the regeneration of the skin and mucous membranes, especially with regard to the respiratory tract and lungs, so it brings relief in inflammation, especially that of the skin and respiratory tract.
It also helps in the absorption of calcium, so it can also facilitate the strengthening of teeth and bones.
